See the best of Scotland in 3.5 Days!

There is no better way to explore Scotland than driving through the Highlands in a luxury car. When my family visited me in Edinburgh in July, I took it upon myself to plan the perfect road trip, to show them the best of Scotland in three and a half days.

The Scottish Highlands Road Trip Route

This is our scottish road trip plan: Edinburgh - Fort William (via Loch Lomond and Glen Coe) - Isle of Skye - Inverness - Edinburgh (via Pitlochry)

The key to a well-planned road trip is choosing the best routes. Keep each leg short and leave plenty of time for stops to soak in the beautiful scenery!

Here's my simple steps

1. Find flights to to Edinburgh and hire a car!

You may or may not know it, but Skyscanner is more than just flights. You can look for car hires or book hotels too.

2. Get your camera ready!

Prep your lenses, charge the batteries and clean out your SD Cards, because you will be taking a lot of pictures on this trip.

3. Get set and go!

Our 3.5 day Scottish Highlands itinerary

Day 1 - Edinburgh to Fort William

While Google Maps might tell you to take the shortest route via Perth, I'd recommend driving through Glasgow (and having lunch there) and driving through Loch Lomond and Glen Coe to get to Fort William - an adorable hillside town with cute houses and a view so breathtaking, you'd want to live there forever!

Day 2 - Fort William to Isle of Skye

Possibly one of the best drives of the entire road trip, if the weather is on your side, you might start painting or writing poetry about the beauty of the Highlands! Make a quick stop to explore the Glenfinnan viaduct, you might catch a glimpse of the Hogwarts express!

Day 3 - Isle of Skye to Inverness

Explore Isle of Skye - go canoeing, explore a remote island and admire the sunset before setting off to Inverness. Most of this drive is along the famous Lake Ness, along with many campsites with Nessie fans waiting to spot the lake monster.

Day 4 - Inverness to Edinburgh

Don't forget to stop by Pitlochry to see salmon jumping! You might find yourself rooting for them and cheering them on. Also, stop by a distillery and learn how to make the perfect Scotch!

I hope these happy faces have convinced you to visit Scotland, and me!
